Authentic Japanese Food in the Gourmet City! Halal Restaurants in Osaka

Until recent years, Islamic culture was not very familiar to the Japanese. However, the number of Muslim people including tourists and students is rapidly increasing lately. One of the most common problems these people have is the difference in food culture. Finding an eatery that serves Halal menu in Japan is quite difficult, especially if you want to eat Japanese dishes. But is there any way for Muslim people to enjoy authentic Japanese food? This time, we will introduce some Japanese restaurants in Osaka that have Muslim friendly menu.

 

Yugetsu-an Sojibo

Along with ramen and udon, “soba” is very commonly eaten noodles in Japan. Soba tastes most delicious when topped with wasabi and chopped shallots, and dipped in “sobatsuyu” soup. It seems Halal food with no prohibited ingredients, but soy sauce is used in sobatsuyu soup, therefore, soba is not suitable for Muslims. At Soji-an, they make their soba dishes without any prohibited ingredients.

Halal Men-tei Naritaya Osaka Minami

The most popular casual Japanese snack is ramen! There are so many ramen shops all over the world, and this is a proof of its popularity. One downside is, most ramen menu uses pork-based soup or grilled pork topping, which is prohibited under Islam law. But, this Naritaya is a Halal certified ramen shop. All their ramens are made without using any prohibited ingredients. Their soup is chicken-based and topping is chicken as well. Other ingredients are also Halal and they don’t serve alcohol drinks.

Chibo Dotonbori

Okonomiyaki, it’s a symbolic food of Osaka! You will find okonomiyaki shops all over Osaka city, and that shows how much okonomiyaki is loved by people in Osaka. Chibo Group is a giant okonomiyaki chain company that operates 69 shops across Japan, and 24 in Osaka. Among all their shops, Dotonbori shop provides Halal menu as a Muslim & vegetarian friendly okonomiyaki shop on the 7th floor of the building. To make okonomiyaki, pork is often used, but Chibo menu only uses only Halal ingredients, so is suitable for Muslim customers.

This restaurant provides casual Japanese menu such as sushi, sashimi and kushi-katsu. Their menu has lots of sea food menu, as well as many Halal food menu. The price range is mainly 400 – 800 yen, so that you can order lots of small dishes to share with your friends and family. Also, they have unique experience menu to make takoyaki or okonomiyaki by yourself at your table. This restaurant is popular among both Japanese customers and international tourists.

“Washoku” includes so many kinds of food from casual snack such as okonomiyaki and ramen to fancy course dinner. Eating Japanese food is one of the most popular activity among tourists. But for Muslim people, there are so many ingredients that they are not allowed to have, including fish broth and some condiments, therefore, eating out in an ordinary Japanese restaurant is not easy for those people. However, the number of washoku restaurant that serves Halal menu is gradually increasing. At such restaurants, Muslims can have quality Japanese food without concerning about ingredients.
