A 10 minute walk from Nakano station. Located a little off the main street is an alley that is so full of shitamachi charm you may feel as if you stepped back in time. Cats are relaxingly sleeping in the middle of the street and if you listen carefully, you can hear faint sounds of a shamisen guitar. On one corner of such a nostalgic street is the ‘Happy House Asian’ sharehouse. The inside of this old-fashioned building has the Showa period grandma’s house ambiance. Cute retro things, up until this point, you only saw in a magazine, like the tiled sink or the shared pump outside, are now part of everyday life. Incorporating a little of the old resulting in a clean look, a remodel of the sink area has made it easier to use. By the way, your housemate Katie is a professional English teacher. Many of your housemates are from overseas and there are the occasional free English lessons. You’ll surely be speaking like a native if you live happily here with everyone.
