The lovable Thomas the Tank Engine can now be found at the Oigawa Railway in Shizuoka Prefecture. Regardless of whether they are Thomas fans or not, everyone will be excited when they see the smoke coming out when he’s running.
Thomas’ life in Japan

Thomas is originally from Great Britain, but has made his presence known in Japan. Of course, Oigawa Railway is very welcoming of it and he’s already become popular nationwide. Thomas runs from Shin-kanaya Station to Senzu Station which is a little less than 15 minutes. He runs with 7 cars that carry a total of 560 passengers. Unfortunately, you always have to make a reservation to be able to get on. In a year he only runs for about 4 months starting in June, so the number of people making reservations has been overwhelming. Most of the time it becomes a lottery, but even if you lose the lottery and a cancellation comes up you can try and sign up as an add-on. For those who can’t give up, their best bet is to constantly check the Oigawa Railway homepage.

By the way, this is the real Thomas the Tank Engine. He doesn’t forget his service manners even inside the cars. You can have your picture taken wearing the station agent’s hat, if you wish. The picture is developed instantly and dropped off at your seat, so even though it’s a short while that you’re there, it’s not a problem. Even here it’s going to be a competition so don’t forget to appeal to the cameraman. For souvenirs, there are many premium items such as the Thomas bento boxes or Thomas dorayaki.They’re sure to be treasures that’ll help you remember. Also, the view from the window is full of greenery and very enjoyable. At this rate, even adults will enjoy the railroad trip.

Thomas is not the only one taking part on the Oigawa Railway. Thomas’ little friend that he treats like a brother Persey, slightly narcissistic James and even Hero, are there. You should especially go see Persey with his many expressions, even more than Thomas. With his constantly moving eyeballs, you’ll want to rub cheeks with his cuteness.
A Special Event with Thomas and Friends
This needs to be repeated again and again, but not everyone will be able to get on Thomas. There might be kids that come just to see and whine that they want to get on… But, no worries. At the Oigawa Railway, on the days that Thomas runs, there is the ‘Thomas the Tank Engine Fair’ that happens. Persey and Hero are always in the field hanging out, but on this day only they come together making everyone happy. Of course, you can freely take pictures.And the long awaited meeting of Persey and Thomas. The three of them together, Persey, Hero, and Thomas, is sure to be a great memorial picture. There are sure to be people who are overcome with emotion. Unfortunately, their meeting is only for an hour during the break, so be sure to check out the times beforehand.
